Jamie, could you please introduce yourself to our readers at Freeduhm and tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a leader in the healthcare tech space?
Certainly! I’m Jamie Frew, the co-founder and CEO of Carepatron, a platform dedicated to revolutionizing the way healthcare is delivered by combining innovative technology with patient-centered care. Over the years, I gained experience in talent management and strategic leadership, working with global organizations like ANZ and Telstra. My journey into healthcare tech was not linear, but it has been incredibly rewarding.
The idea behind Carepatron came from recognizing the need to simplify and improve the healthcare experience for both practitioners and patients. We saw an opportunity to address the administrative burdens faced by healthcare professionals while also enhancing the quality of care for patients. What initially was planned for Carepatron wasn’t what users needed, making time and effort on the initial launch somewhat moot, but it allowed the platform to grow into what it is today — an adaptable and scalable solution that meets real-world needs.
We’ve built a fully remote team that thrives on trust and autonomy, and we continue to empower our users by streamlining their workflows so they can focus on delivering the best care possible.

What initially sparked your interest in healthcare technology, and what were some of the key milestones that led you to your current role at Carepatron?
My interest in healthcare technology began with the realization that tech could simplify healthcare—an industry heavily burdened by administrative tasks. After working in talent management and strategy, I saw the potential to improve healthcare operations by reducing inefficiencies and enhancing patient care. Key milestones include co-founding Carepatron with David Pene, where we initially created a solution to manage patient records and streamline tasks.
We quickly pivoted based on user feedback, shaping the platform to meet real-world needs. Going fully remote was another turning point, allowing us to build a diverse, empathetic team. Our expansion into AI tools, such as Medical Transcription, further enhanced our mission to empower healthcare professionals to focus on patient care. These experiences have shaped my journey to where we are today. Spoiler: there’s more to come really, really soon, so make sure to watch out for that!
Building a successful telehealth platform like Carepatron requires navigating regulatory and privacy concerns. What advice would you give to aspiring healthcare tech entrepreneurs on addressing these challenges?
Navigating regulatory and privacy concerns in healthcare tech is crucial, and my advice is to prioritize them from the start. First, make sure you deeply understand the regulations that apply to your business, like HIPAA and GDPR, and stay current with any changes. Building strong security measures, like encryption and regular audits, should be a core focus from day one to protect sensitive health data. It’s also important to have legal or compliance experts on board who can help guide you through the complexities of healthcare laws, especially as you scale.
At the same time, be transparent with users about how their data is used and protected—it builds trust and confidence in your platform. Lastly, stay flexible. Regulations are always evolving, so your platform should be adaptable, with room for updates and changes. By making security and compliance part of your foundation, you’ll build a product users can trust while staying ahead of potential challenges.
From your perspective, how do you see the role of data privacy and security evolving within the healthcare tech landscape in the coming years?
Data privacy and security are becoming even more important for healthcare professionals and their patients as the industry continues to go digital. With more sensitive information being shared online, clinicians will need reliable systems that protect their patients’ data and build trust. As AI and digital tools evolve, there will be a growing demand for platforms that not only meet tough security standards but also clearly show how data is handled. Healthcare providers will look for solutions that make their jobs easier while staying compliant with new regulations. The companies that focus on delivering secure, user-friendly platforms will be the ones leading the charge in the future of healthcare tech.
Many healthcare professionals are hesitant to adopt new technologies. What strategies have you found effective in encouraging the adoption of platforms like Carepatron among healthcare providers?
It’s true that many healthcare professionals can be hesitant to adopt new technologies, often because they’re concerned about disrupting their existing workflows or the learning curve involved. At Carepatron, we’ve found that the key to encouraging adoption is to focus on simplicity, efficiency, and showing clear benefits from the start. First, we ensure our platform is intuitive and easy to use, which reduces the burden on providers to learn something new. We also offer personalized onboarding and ongoing support so healthcare professionals feel confident using the system right away.
Additionally, highlighting the specific ways Carepatron can save them time — such as automating administrative tasks or improving patient communication — helps them see the tangible benefits. We’ve also found success in using peer recommendations, as healthcare providers tend to trust feedback from colleagues who have already integrated the platform into their practice. Ultimately, it’s about making the technology feel like an enhancement to their existing workflow, not an extra task, and showing them how it directly improves patient care and their overall efficiency.
Looking beyond technology, what are some of the essential qualities or skills that you believe are crucial for success in the healthcare tech industry?
Success in healthcare tech goes beyond technology. Empathy is key. You need to understand the challenges of both healthcare providers and patients to create meaningful solutions. Adaptability is also crucial, as the industry constantly evolves, requiring quick responses to changes in regulations or tech. Strong communication skills are needed to help build trust, whether you’re explaining your platform or listening to user feedback. Of course, having a solid grasp of healthcare processes and regulations ensures your solutions align with industry needs while maintaining compliance. Balancing innovation with the human side of care is essential for success.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in healthcare technology based on your own experiences and insights?
Stay curious and embrace the challenges that come with it. The healthcare industry is complex, so having a passion for problem-solving and a willingness to dig deep into the intricacies of healthcare systems is essential. Also, be adaptable. The landscape is always changing, from regulations to innovations, so staying flexible and open to learning will help you grow and succeed. A career in healthcare technology is rewarding because it blends tech with making a real difference in people’s lives.
